Panelized Homes

Panelized homes can be a wise solution for busy people who still want to own their own home, but don’t have a lot of time to wait for a stick built, traditional home.  Saving time always sounds good, but exactly what is a panelized home?

Simply speaking, a panelized home is partially built in a factory and then transported in sections to your property where the building of it is then completed on site.

The inner and outer wall panel framing, flooring that has been already pre-marked, framing for the roof trusses, and any part that must be pre-assembled such as stairways for two story panelized homes will be done in the factory ahead of time.

Besides saving time there are many benefits in choosing panelized homes.  Because the largest portion of work in panelized homes is done in the factory less material is wasted.  Factory labor is almost always less than construction labor, and since the sections of panelized homes delivered to your building site requires little more than being put together, construction time is less, also, requiring less labor.  For these reasons panelized homes can be far less expensive than traditionally built homes.  Of course, another factor that will save time and money is that there are very little delays caused by rain or other inclement weather that holds up the building project.

So as you can see, panelized homes are not what some commonly refer to as characterless “cracker box” homes that are poorly constructed.  In fact, panelized homes are now a mult-million dollar business.  So many people choosing panelized homes can’t be all wrong!

What makes panelized homes different from its popular counterpart, the modular home is the method in which the factory production part takes place.  Panelized homes are built from stick, and then the flat components are transported to your building site more easily than modular homes. Because of panelized homes being flat the electrical wiring can even be preinstalled at the factory.

A benefit to purchasing a panelized home is the speed that it can be winterized, or otherwise protected from the environment.  Because of this your panelized home may even avoid problems with mold and mildew down the line.  For this reason manufacturers of panelized homes can offer a ten year warranty.

Sadly, popular opinion sees panelized homes as a lower budget home.  As already seen this is truly not the case.  In higher end communities million dollar panelized homes have begun to spring up and will continue to do so, hopefully putting an end to wrong perceptions.
